Your Tire Warranty Explained
Canadian Tire offers a great custom care program for new tires that are purchased, installed, and balanced at a Canadian Tire Service Centre.
Basic Protection Plan
The Basic Protection Plan protects customers from road hazard damage and manufacturing defects, and is included at no additional cost for any tires that have been purchased, installed, and balanced at a Canadian Tire Service Centre. Road hazard damage is tire damage caused by debris or hazards on the road, including cuts or punctures, run flats, or impact breaks. The tire will be repaired at no charge if it falls within Canadian Tire repair policy guidelines. Should the tire be irreparable, it will be replaced at a “pro-rata” replacement price based on usage. “Pro-rata” means that some charges will apply depending on how much tread you have already used. For example, a new tire may have a tread depth of 11/32” but only 9/32” of tread is usable (tires less than 2/32” are considered legally bald and unserviceable). If the tire being replaced under warranty has a tread depth of 8/32” remaining, the usable tread depth is 6/32” (8/32” less 2/32”) which means 1/3 or 33% of the tire has been used. Therefore, the replacement cost would be 33% of the current regular price. Installation, balancing, disposal fees, and taxes are additional and are the responsibility of the tire owner.
Manufacturing defects include workmanship or material defects that originate during the tire manufacturing process. For issues relating to manufacturing defects, Canadian Tire will replace, reinstall, and balance the tire if it’s considered unserviceable. In a case where the tire is deemed unserviceable due to a manufacturing defect with tread wear of 2/32” or less, your Canadian Tire Service Centre will replace, install, and balance tires for no additional charge. If the tire is rendered unserviceable and does not qualify for a “no charge” replacement, it will be replaced with a comparable tire on a pro-rata price basis. The replacement cost is based on the current regular price of the tire. Installation, balancing, disposal fees, and taxes are additional and are the responsibility of the tire owner.
Protection Plan Plus
Canadian Tire also offers an optional warranty program called Protection Plan Plus. This optional warranty program includes a no charge tire replacement for tires that have been damaged by a road hazard or manufacturing defect, and is valid up to 5 years from the date of purchase. It also includes a free spare tire change service within the first year after purchase. The Protection Plan Plus program can be purchased for $6.99 per tire when purchased, installed, and balanced at one of our Canadian Tire Service Centres. Installation, balancing, disposal fees, and taxes for tire replacements are additional and are the responsibility of the tire owner.
In addition to our warranty programs, Canadian Tire offers a series of value added services when you purchase, install, and balance your tires at Canadian Tire Service Centre. These include:
- Free tire mounting upon pickup with appointment*
- Free rubber valve stems*
- Free flat repairs*
- Free rotation and visual brake inspection every 10,000 km*
* Only offered when tires have been installed at a Canadian Tire Service Centre. Additional fees for balancing may apply during the installation process.
Please note that each protection plan is subject to exclusions from their policies. Tires will not be covered if there is proof of service abuse, such as tire spinning or obstruction damage. Any failure or damage caused by rapid and irregular wear, fire, accident, vandalism, negligence, motorsport, improper mounting, non-approved rims, chains, mechanical condition of the vehicle and more, will be excluded from warranty coverage. Claims must be made by the original purchaser and exclude non-passenger vehicles or any vehicle other than the original.
